Aleck Smith (Alexander Benjamin Smith) was born on 1871 in New York, New York. He made his Major League debut on April 23, 1897 for the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. In 1897, his rookie year, he hit .300 with 1 home run and 39 RBI. Smith played for the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Brooklyn Superbas, Baltimore Orioles, New York Giants, Boston Americans and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that Aleck Smith's best season was 1897, when he hit for a .300 average.
