Born on February 5, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama, Al Worthington (Allan Fulton Worthington) played for the New York Giants, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds and Minnesota Twins over the course of his 14 year career. Worthington broke into the bigs on July 6, 1953 with the New York Giants, and put up a 3.44 ERA in 102 innings pitched in 1953, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Al Worthington's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1965, when he posted a 2.13 ERA, won 10 games, notched 21 saves and struck out 59 batters. However, others believe that it was 1966, when he posted a 2.46 ERA, notched 16 saves and struck out 93 batters.
