Al Widmar

Born on March 20, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, Al Widmar (Albert Joseph Widmar) played for the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 5 year career. Widmar broke into the bigs on April 25, 1947 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 4.46 ERA in 82.2 innings pitched in 1948, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Al Widmar's best season was 1950, when he posted a 4.76 ERA and struck out 78 batters.
