Al Thornburg (Alvin Dennis Thornburg) was born on October 14, 1900 in Dallas, Iowa. Thornburg attended Iowa State University. Thornburg made his professional debut in the AFLG in 1926 with the Cleveland Panthers. He played for the Cleveland Panthers for his entire 1 year career.
