Born on May 15, 1938 in Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands, Al McBean (Alvin O'Neal McBean) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers over the course of his 10 year career. McBean broke into the bigs on July 2, 1961 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 3.75 ERA in 74.1 innings pitched in 1961, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Al McBean's best season was 1964, when he posted a 1.91 ERA and notched 22 saves.
