Al Mays
[edit] Biography
Born on May 17, 1865 in Canal Dover, Ohio, Al Mays (Albert C. Mays) played for the Louisville Colonels, New York Metropolitans, Brooklyn Bridegrooms and Columbus Colts over the course of his 6 year career. Mays broke into the bigs on May 10, 1885 with the Louisville Colonels, and put up a 2.76 ERA in 150 innings pitched in 1885, his rookie year.
There is some disagreement on what was Al Mays's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1887, when he posted a 4.73 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 124 batters. However, others believe that it was 1888, when he posted a 2.80 ERA and struck out 67 batters.
