Born on October 23, 1965 in Toms River, New Jersey, Al Leiter (Alois Terry Leiter) played for the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins and New York Mets over the course of his 19 year career. Leiter broke into the bigs on September 15, 1987 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 3.92 ERA in 57.1 innings pitched in 1988, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Al Leiter's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1998, when he posted a 2.47 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 174 batters. However, others believe that it was 2000, when he posted a 3.20 ERA, won 16 games and struck out 200 batters.
