Did I seriously just hear on CBS' NFL Today that global warming is a reason behind the increase in touch backs this season? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are perfectly good scientific reasons behind this statement (though chances are my scientifically challenged brain couldn't handle these truths anyhow). But honestly, did you ever think game day analysis would come to this? There's nothing else we could be analyzing besides how far the kickoffs have sailed this season?
Of course the other reason implicated was the K-ball factor - that this year, the league only uses 3 or 4 balls for games and the ball gets softer as it's used over the course of a game, thus resulting in balls sailing farther. And sure, this makes sense, too. But the fact remains that they spent a perfectly good 3-minute segment discussing kickoffs. That's 3 minutes of my life I'll never have back...thanks dicks.
Ladies and gentleman, I'm now tuning my TV to Fox...there may be significantly more mindless banter between Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw, but I'm pretty sure those brilliant minds would at least avoid the topic of Global Warming and its effect on kickoffs...
I blame Chad Johnson personally...

I didn't see this segment, so I can't comment on the global warming discussion. However, I have to say that I don't have a problem with them discussing kickoff distance. It's a difference that affects the game in terms of scoring, how defenses and offenses play, how specials teams play... I have no problem with them discussing that. There is stuff to talk about in the football realm that falls outside of the Patriots and which QB is the best in the land.
