Al Cowlings (Allen G. Cowlings) was born on June 16, 1947 in San Francisco, California. After going to high school at Galileo (San Francisco, CA), Cowlings attended City College of San Francisco and the University of Southern California. Cowlings made his professional debut in the NFL in 1970 with the Buffalo Bills. He played for the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Oilers, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that 1971 was Al Cowlings's best year, as he recovered 3 opponents fumbles.
