Advice For At Bat Music

by user Dahumber

Going to the to baseball games all weekend, I started getting pretty judgemental by Sunday on some players warmup and at bat music. The banality of the players' music choices makes me think that they need some guidance for selection. So... some free advice when picking your music guys:

No Linkin Park: If a player uses Linkin Park for his warm up/at bat music, he is instantly credited as being a player that Baseball Central does not care for. Notable players who have used a Linkin Park song include Russ Adams and Aaron Rowand (Rowand digs his hole even further by stating that Linkin Park is his favorite band!). Some players tried to hide their Linkin Park love, by using one of their mashups with respectable rapper Jay-Z. We're not stupid though, we still know there's that Linkin Park band featured prominently in your at bat music A-Rod and Jonny Gomes.

Don't Be Unoriginal: A couple of years ago, like 40 players or something had Usher's "Yeah" as their at bat music. This year, it seems every other player has "Rompe" by Daddy Yankee. Advice to players, if another player has picked a song for their at bat music, don't copy. This isn't top 40 radio, we don't want to here the same song every 15 minutes.

Closers Must Have Metal: There are a tonne of metal bands out there with songs that are loud and full of testosterone. If you're a closer, you want to intimidate and get the blood flowing, so have a warm up song by a band like Slipknot, Metallica, AC/DC or Drowning Pool. Don't do as last year's Jays closer Miguel Batista did, and choose a song by Coolio.

Songs That Bring Out Your Identity: If there's something unique about you, and it can be represented by a song, then choose that song. For example, Scott Rolen uses Limp Bizkit's "Rollin'" cause it's his name, kinda, sorta. Corey Koskie uses a Rush song because both he and Rush are Canadian. Raul Mondesi actually sang in his at bat music.

Kitsch Equals Cool: Although he doesn't use it anymore, Chase Utley's selection of the Vengaboys "We Like To Party" was one of the most popular choices of at bat music ever by a Philadelphia Phillie and spawned an Utley fanclub that followed him around America called "The Vengabus". Gabe Gross similarly had a memorable at bat song when with the Jays last year, as fans were always receptive to the "Eye of the Tiger" when Gross approached the plate. Jason Giambi kind of misses the concept with his embarassingly bad choice of The NWO Wolfpac theme song as his at bat music, but for the most part, players should be applauded for picking offbeat tunes.

...because it's the little things that help you win.

Ummm... you wouldn't take a musician' sports opinions seriously, why should we care about an athelete's taste in music?

Music is one of the strangest things on this planet. There are few things more personal than tastes in music, yet 99% of people only listen to music other people told them was cool, is accepted as cool by their 'friends' or has a cool video.

There are at least 100 million more proficient musicians in the world than the so-called professional musicians. I've made songs, my friends have made songs that ARE better than many of the songs on the radio, but no matter what because it wasn't made in a 'professional' studio or have a video on MTV, MOST people will NOT accept it as 'REAL' music. I know you probably don't accept it as real music and YOU'VE never heard it!?!?!?

Be yourself, Do your OWN thing. Damn everyone else. Props to Mondesi.

Austin Kearns last year had the song Sean Casey perforned for the MLB player album as his at-bat music. Friends in Low Places I believe if my memory serves me. This is original, and I loved it every time.

We should all create a more ocmplete list of baseball entrance music. The one in the story has only like 40 players.

Giambi's at-bat music should be "Where's my name in the MVP debate"

wow i cant believe giambi has the wolfpac theme...that was, what, like almost ten years ago in a now-defunct wrestling league?! I like chippers song (crazy train) but i think a few people copied him. The biggest rule should be that the music fits the person, like when mike lowell when he was with the marlins, he played "oh boy" by juelz santana. Definitely not what i was expecting.

Wow. Extraordinary length to go to. There isn't much variety to the artists involved on that page.
