Once again, the Houston Cougars proved themselves worthy of the Bayou Bucket with their come from behind win at the friendly confines of John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium by a count of 56-48 October 13th. The Cougars led early in the contest but Rice ralled to lead the home team, who trailed at the intermission but managed to pull away from their cross-town and CUSA opponents late in the contest. UH would seal the deal with an interception late in the contest to retain possession of the bucket. Donnie Avery caught 13 balls for 346 yards, while running back Anthony Alridge rushed for 215 yards on 24 carries, marking the first time this feat had ever been done in a college football game. The come-from-behind win was the 19th in head coach Art Briles' tenure at UH.
The win evened UH's record to 3-3 on the season, 2-1 in CUSA Eastern Division play. Rice fell to 1-5, 1-1 in CUSAE play. The game was also the longest in actual time needed to complete this season, 3:51 minutes
