Dolphins no longer dead in water
The Dolphins won, yes you read that correctly the Miami Dolphins won a game. Cam Cameron is not a complete failure. He got his first win of his head-coaching career and it came at the Baltimore Ravens expense in overtime.
Cleo Lemon took back the starting job and did a decent job. Going 23 of 39 for 315 yards and his biggest touchdown of his career, a 64 yarder in overtime to second year wide receiver Greg Camarillo. The Ravens had a chance to win it in overtime when Matt Stover when of the best kickers in the game lined up for a 44-yard attempt and pushed it wide. The Dolphins took full advantage.
Jets give Patriots a run
The New England Patriots managed to be the second team in NFL history to start a year 14-0. The other? The 1972 Miami Dolphins, who also finished the regular season 14-0. There was only 14 game seasons then. They also went on to win the Super Bowl, going 17-0 overall. For the first time all season Tom Brady did not throw a touchdown pass. The crappy weather had more to do with that than the New York Jets crappy defense. There was only one offensive touchdown scored all game. It was by Laurence Maroney. The others were all defensive. Final score 20-10.
Steelers lose at home
The Pittsburgh Steelers lost at home for the first time this season, courtesy of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fred Taylor had a huge day and helped improve the Jaguars playoff chances. Final score 29-22.
Tampa Bay playoff bound
Jeff Garcia returned to the Bucs, and they clinched a playoff spot. Something that has not happened since they won the Super Bowl in 2002. They destroyed the Atlanta Falcons, final score 37-3.
Browns shovel through Buffalo
The Cleveland Browns defeated the Buffalo Bills 8-0, on two field goals and a safety, during a blizzard that affected most of the northern games played today.
Browns playoff bound?
The Cleveland Browns improved their record to 9-5 today and baring a complete collapse should be in the playoffs. The AFC picture currently looks like this: 1) New England Patriots 14-0 2) Indianapolis Colts 11-2 3) Pittsburgh Steelers 4) San Diego Chargers 8-5 5) Jacksonville Jaguars 10-4 6) Cleveland Browns 9-5 On the Bubble) Tennessee Titans 8-6, Buffalo Bills 7-7, Houston Texans 7-7.
Favre fly’s past record and Packers pack for playoffs
Brett Favre broke another record that Dan Marino record. This time Favre broke the all time career passing yards mark. The record was at 61,361, Favre now has 61,405 yards for his career, and no body knows how much longer he will play.
The Packers as a team have also had a big year, improving from last years 8-8 to 12-2 so far. They clinched a first round bye with a win over the St. Louis Rams and look to make some noise in the playoffs. Final score 33-14.
Chargers bolt to playoffs
The San Diego Chargers clinched a playoff spot in week 15 and have slowly started to turn their disappointing season around. After finishing 14-2 and then having a disappointing playoff exit to the New England Patriots, they have struggled this year and look to be getting a bit better at just the right time. It will be interesting to watch what kind of noise they can make in the playoffs. They clinched the division and a playoff spot with a 51-14 trouncing of the Detroit Lions.
Eagles soar over Cowboys
The Philadelphia Eagles who have had upsets on their minds since the close game against the New England Patriots followed up by two close games finally pulled off a win against the much better Dallas Cowboys, winning 10-6.
Loins roar turns into a whimper
At the beginning of the year the Detroit Lions quarter back roared at the media saying that his team would win 10 games. Well with the thrashing the San Diego Chargers gave them this week that roar is now a whimper in the book of bad guarantees, right along with the Pittsburgh Steelers safety Anthony Smith who promised a win over the Patriots… and since the Pat’s are still undefeated we know how that turned out.
New Orleans keeps hope alive
The Saints need to win out to have any shot at a playoff birth. And they helped keep the hope alive this week with a win over the Arizona Cardinals. Drew Brees was outstanding and is hoping to get his team back to the playoffs with out to huge weapons; Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister. Final score of the week 15 game 31-24.
Petrino flies away from Falcons
It happened earlier in the week but it is still part of the news for week 15 as coach Petrino left Atlanta mid season to sign with a college team in Arkansas. I feel that it was a huge disappointment and completely disrespectful to every player on the Atlanta team, the ownership and the fans. He should have at least finished out the season.
With week 15 still not complete I still think it was a pretty good week.
