A list of workhorses in the NBA and NFL

In the previous posting, I forgot to log on.

The following is a list to honor a group of workhorses in the NBA and NFL. The guys that get the acknowledgement not for being the main scorer or the main go-to guy but get the acknowledgement for how hard they bust their behind in getting the job done. In my view, these guys don't get enough credit. Feel free to throw in a name if I left anyone worthy off the list.

NBA

  • Charles Oakley - Weakside rebounder for the NY Knicks during their playoff years. An enforcer that gave the Knicks an identity. He was the enforcer for Michael Jordan during his early years.
  • Otis Thorpe - Weakside rebounder for Hakeem Olajuwon during their two championship years. All star in 1991-1992. Averaged a double-double for 5 of his 17 career seasons.
  • Horace Grant
  • Dale Davis
  • A.C. Green
  • Kevin Willis
  • Anderson Varejao
  • Udonis Haslem
  • Dennis Rodman
  • Ben Wallace
  • Bill Laimbeer
  • Kurt Rambis
  • Avery Johnson
  • Scott Skiles
  • Kevin Johnson
  • Tayshaun Prince
  • Gerald Wallace

NFL

  • Mack Strong
  • Mike Alstott
  • Curtis Martin
  • Lorenzo Neal
  • Sam Adams
  • Tedy Bruschi
  • Mark Bavaro
  • Brian Westbrook
  • William Perry
  • Troy Brown
  • Larry Allen
  • Richie Anderson
  • Daryl"Moose" Johnston
  • Wayne Chrebet
  • Rodney Harrison

Is this a historical list or a current list? It seems to be a mix, which does justice for neither the past nor the present.

i think there should be Nick Barnett for the NFL, and William Henderson too, also there should be way more o-line men on that list

this is just a list without any explanations or opinions - it's not very interesting. With your explanation and justification, it'd probably generate a lot more conversation. Though it would take awhile to write about each player you have listed.

It's a pretty damn good list in my opinion. I always liked Horace Grant. Mike Alstott and Mack Strong do not get enough credit. And no matter how crazy he was off the court, Dennis Rodman was a hard-worket on the court.

How about Rodney Harrison? He leaves it all on the field every Sunday.
