Soccer haters Jim Rome, you think that 1-0 is boring? Well let me give you the other side of the fence here. This is a Superliga match between FC Dallas and the LA Beckhams.

But they have a passion for the game. I have to deal with American commentators for every sport. Thank god I have the CBC. I listen to the Canadian announcers and they talk about the game. Sort of like......the British.

I'd compare him more to Berman.

I keep saying this, Berman sounds like a diseased chicken when he does his back back back thing.

We had 6-6 over here a few times, it hasn't happened recently... It's happened a few times in the Football League.

The West Ham vs. Tottenham game was 4-3. And Arsenal against Blackburn was 6-2.

Yeah I mean 50 years ago or something. And Football League, i.e. before the advent of the Premiership. I remember (reading about) one game was 7-6 between Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic. Huddersfield led 5-1 but lost (or the other way around, I forget).

Here I turned it off at 4-1 and missed half the scoring! Not everyday you can say that in this sport.

It's a shame that the stadium was half filled.

Two problems... A) Most true fans hardly consider the MLS as soccer. B) A 6-5 score is still not high enough to justify 90 monotonous minutes of running and dribbling. There. I said it. Insults may begin.

This was more scoring than a lot of NFL games.

There was more scoring in that game, than in any game involving the Detroit Pistons.

This whole slow/monotonous thing is so idiotic. Have fans in the US not noticed that NFL games feature maybe 10-12 of play followed by 40 seconds of nothing in order to reset the formation and do it again. We're lucky if a 60 minute NFL game feature 30 minutes of actual game action!

You seem to be forgetting, Mr. Barcelona, that the point you just made results in far more variation in football (American). If football were just one, long running-play. Nobody would watch it.

The plays, or as you call it, resets of formation, allow football to have greater depth, as a team must decide on any given play what goal they should set out to accomplish... First down, field goal, touchdown, etc. Then, they decide how they should go about doing so...

More variation = Better spectator sport. I'm not saying soccer's not fun... but it sucks to watch.

Greater depth? I have to disagree. Not that football is shallow, but rather soccer is deeper than you claim. Offensively, do you go up the middle and use pace to get past the central defense, or do you use the wings and set up a great cross into the box? Do you bring the fullbacks up to help with offense at the expense of getting exploited on a counter attack? Substitution are also incredibly strategic. Since you only get three for the match, when and who to bring people on is important (bring them out later can exploit a fatigued defense, but too late and it may be hard for a sub to get acclimated before the end of the match).

I love the NFL, but the intention of most of these players is to batter them to a pulp. Soccer is a strategic sport, because you can't stop the game and set up a winning play.

Soccer players have to find weak matchups, time passes or crosses, and protect the ball from defenders. In a lot of ways, they all have to be like a quarterback.

Except the goalkeeper. Who has to be like a punter and a defensive back.

SSreporters: Many would argue that the fact you can set up a winning play makes it strategic. Thecrookedcap: Thank you. Honestly. That is the first time in the history of my brief life that someone has given me a rational, soccer argument that has actually made me think about the sport. You have made me consider watching a game or two.
