A First for Holt

During the St. Louis Rams 41-24 loss last night to my 10-5 Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis WR, Torry Holt, spoke his mind to 2nd year head coach Scott Linehan. After Marc Bulger threw his 2nd INT, which was returned 51-yards for a TD by Ike Taylor during the 4th QTR, Torry Holt yelled at Linehan, and a short argument broke out, in front of the cameras.
This is a first for Holt, who reminds me of Marvin Harrison (quiet, and humble). Holt is a great receiver (possibly HOF material???), and is the Rams leader/captain on offense. I have never seen Holt like that, of course I don't think the Rams have had this bad a season since Holt has joined the Rams 9 years ago. I am surprised, yet, not surprised at the same time. I AM surprised at the fact that it was Holt who spoke out. Yet, I AM NOT surprised that this happened because why wouldn't he be frustrated??? I mean, the Rams were supposed to be a contender for the Division, or AT LEAST a playoff contender. But, with 1 game to go, the Rams find themselves at 3-12, and at the very bottom of the NFC West Division, which is, in fact, the weakest Division in the NFL.
Scott Linehan's job is in jeopardy, especially if they lose next week at the 6-8 Arizona Cardinals.
Many will argue that it was not a 'big deal'. And, it may not have been, since we have seen many player-coach arguments on the sideline. Better yet, we see may WR-QB arguments, as well. But, I think you have to worry, and if I was the Ram's owner, I would keep an eye on Linehan. Although, I don't think you can fire him after this year, I would give him one more year, and keep him if he pulls it together next year. Many of the Rams problems have been injuries, like the injury to 2004's Pro Bowl MVP, Marc Bulger, and RB Steven Jackson. Those are just two of their 11 key injuries (they have 11 players on the IR, including 3 key OL starters, and pass-rusher Leonard Little). So, as you can see injuries have slowed down St. Louis' offense tremendously, therefore, St. Louis started off the season 0-8, until they finally beat the New Orleans Saints 37-29 back in week 10.
Holt, and his teammate, future HOF wideout, Isaac Bruce, are spectacular receivers, and are in their 9th straight season together with the Rams. Holt is headed to his 8th Pro Bowl as the one and only Rams representative for this year's Pro Bowl.
Here is what Scott Linehan has to say about the situation (if you want to know):
"When you're sitting here at 3-12, I'm the first one to say everything's not all that pleasant," Linehan said. "No one likes losing. Exactly what I said last night is what I say today and I'll say tomorrow.
"You can ask me that question any way you want and I'll have the same opinion on it."
Point of this article: This is the first and last time you will EVER see Torry do something like this. I just could not belive my eyes when I saw HIM, of all people, yelling at his coach. So, if you like seeing players yell at coaches, then you should probably go somewhere else like, say, Cincinnati, or even Dallas. You will not find anyone yelling at their head coach in St. Louis EVER again (unless they go 0-16 next year).
