"Mami, I'm good all by myself,
But I'm a force when we're together.
Mami, I'm good all by myself,
But baby you, you make me better."
~NeYo and Fabolous, "You Make Me Better"
Those words have to be running through the heads of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett this morning. I was awoken by a thunderstorm at 6:35am, and turned on the radio to hear that Minnesota and Boston have basically agreed to trade Kevin Garnett to Boston, according to ESPN.com and other sources.
This is officially the second time in my entire life that I'm legitimately excited about Celtics basketball.
Granted, the Celtics have to give up a s***load of young talent to get Garnett. Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair and a future draft pick, most likely a first rounder, will be shipped off to Minnesota along with Theo Ratliff and his expiring contract, according to Marc Stein. Three of those guys I can deal with getting rid of, but AJ is one of the best young low post scorers in the league, and his potential is tremendous. Thankfully, Rajon Rondo, the point guard of the future, is thought to be sticking around.
But with KG in his place, the Celtics have three guys who can score 30 on any given night, 20 on most nights. The biggest question will be the meshing of those three egos, especially with Pierce being the face of the franchise for the past 5 years or so. Apparently, all three guys have "signed off" on the deal and are thrilled to be playing together. It's been said the Celtics would not have made this deal if they weren't convinced they could sign KG to a contract exension, so it appears KG will be making his home in Beantown for the next 4-5 years.
Overall, they stack up near the top of the East (top 5 or 6, thrown in with Detroit, Miami, Cleveland, and Chicago). Can they win a championship within the next 3-4 years, if everyone stays relatively healthy? It's a distinct possibility.
The Boston Celtics are relevant again. And I'm pumped. Wahwahweewah.
BREAKING NEWS: The Boston Globe is reporting the latest deal is as constituted above, with Al Jefferson replaced by Ryan Gomes. So it's Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and two first-round picks to the Timberwolves for Garnett. Sweet Jesus, Al and KG ON THE SAME TEAM?!
UPDATE: Big Al is back in the deal. So it's now Gomes, Green, Telfair, Ratliff, Jefferson and 2 first round picks. Basically every piece of young talent, with the exception of Rondo and this year's draft picks.

Someone Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Webber are laughing...
This will be entertaining...
