In the fast-paced, exciting world of the American Hockey League, the Milwaukee Admirals defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 5-4 to advance to the Calder Cup Finals. Milwaukee has been on a tear through the playoffs of late, winning the last nine games over the past three rounds. They defeated first the Iowa Stars in seven games, then swept the Houston Aeros to reach the Western Conference Finals.
In the east things are still undecided. The Portland Pirates won on home ice at the Cumberland County Civic Center tonight, defeating the Hershey Bears 5-3. Last night the Pirates staged an impressive third-period comeback, scoring three goals to win the game. Before running into Portland, Hershey had been on even more of a tear through the playoffs than Milwaukee - they swept their first two opponents, and had won ten straight games before Portland defeated them in Game 3.
The Pirates and Bears now face a long break, as Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals will be in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, May 30. The Calder Cup Finals should begin at the end of next week.
