Although the name may be a stretch, the World Series is one of the most dramatic events in sports

The World Series is finally upon us. The St. Louis Cardinals will take on the Detroit Tigers in the 2006 Fall Classic.

Who will win and in how many games?

Leave your predictions in the comment section and we'll see who has the right combination of foresite, team analysis and pure luck.

You can also add who you're pulling for, if you like.

I don't really mind who wins. I just want a "clean fight", so to speak. I am a neutral observer.

More importantly (to me!) is the difference I was just reminded of between Britain and America. We call "Fall", "Autumn". Hence the word "autumnal." Do the US have/use that word?

On the topic of the World Series, at least it is on over half-term in Britain (i.e. mid-somester), so I can actually watch it!

We use Autumn as well, the two are interchangable. Typically though, at least around Ohio, "Fall" is used by those that dislike the season (mostly because they hate winter) and they like to refer to the death and decay of nature. Those who love the season like I do tend to use the more poetic "Autumn" on most occasions.

Ok thanks for that! After a bit more thought, I want the Tigers to win - they won about 60 games a few years ago, and I'd like to see the change around from that to World Series winners.

CPCP, that just proves Ohio's weird. I've never thought or heard of any negative associations with "Fall." :)

I dunno who id want to win yet. If i had to pick one at this stage id probably have to say the cards as a friend of mine likes them, but ill figure out later. I'm assuming the Tigers get home-field advantage due to the fact that the American League won the All-Star Game??

Tigers in... oh wait... I am slightly bored and non-caring by this World Series matchup. Damn you Yadier Molina and your hot playoff bat. Anyway, St. Louis in 6... yeah for the minority view!

Tigers in 5. I think that the Tigers are going to come out flat, after the long wait, then put the screws to the Cardinals batters winning four straight/

The term "World Series" doesn't seem to bother me. Calling the winning team of the World Series "World Champions" does tho.
