A-Rod on Steroids?

12

by Insan

Jose Canseco has been stirring up news lately when he went on WEEI-Radio in Boston that he has "other stuff" on Alex Rodriguez, who he called a "hypocrite" who "was not all he appeared to be." When WEEI tried to clarify Canseco's comments by asking him if A-Rod took steriods, Canseco simply replied, "wait and see". On top of all that, Canseco's lawyer stated that "Jose has information about A-Rod and the Yankees that will be in the book. But, I am not sure if Jose is willing to disclose it at this point."

Rodriguez was asked about it before the game in Baltimore and replied, "I have no comment." Most likely meaning that he has to talk to his lawyer first before saying anything to the media. So everyone should stay tuned for A-Rod's comments later this week.

The question then comes up, is A-Rod really on steroids or is this a sad attempt by Canseco to hype up his upcoming book to make more money? There has been little to no speculation that A-Rod has ever been on steroids, but with this news coming out, even if it is completely false, it will probably taint A-Rod's run at history because of Canseco. Canseco cannot be arrested for putting rumors out like this because of the first ammendment but he can be sued by A-Rod which will most likely happen if he indeed accuses him of taking steroids and it is false. Canseco's first book, "Juiced" was published in 2005, and he has yet again brought the baseball world more 'juicy' news.

Regardless of the steroids implication, I disagree

A-Rod, essentially "when" he goes to break the record...will be seen as "not barry bonds" and therefore, most people will be ok with it

More people are starting to accept this "juiced" era, for what it is...an era...just like the deadball era...now we just have inflated hitting...

I hope not because I looked at A-Rod and confidently could say that he is doing it the right way. As much as he's pissed me off over the years, thats one thing I could say about him and I can still say about it. With Canseco's comments, I really don't know how America will react, especially down the line when Canseco finishes his book and the comments get out there.

A-Rod's steroid cloud is about as big and dark as every other MLBer for the last 20 years...Canseco saying it is just...Canseco being Canseco...his credibility is questionable as is... This guy was on the surreal life...

Or tell whether a ball is a strike or a ball, OR what part of the field you should hit, OR what type of pitch is coming. With all of the criticism that A-Rod has had, I truly feel bad for him. He is one of the best players in the game, best right now, and will most likely be in the Top 5 players of all time, excluding the steroids issue.

Just cycling in general...perhaps, but with cycling there are all these allegations of blood doping and now I'm hearing rumors of "gene doping"? All in all, it's cheating, but the cycling allegations seem more wide spread and frankly more dangerous

Since "Juiced" came out in 2005, and A-Rod was already well established as one of (if not the) premier sluggers in the game, its strains credulity that Canseco had this information back then, unless he had a sequel planned. And even that would require a bit more foresight and planning than I would give Jose credit for.

There is some scientific evidence that steroid use may improve vision and reaction time, so it potentially could allow one to have an advantage seeing what pitch is coming and being able to react to it.

When you read any new comment you must first look at where it's coming from, Jose Canseco. I'm not sure about the rest of you but he's not exactly the cleanest source. This guy would shout "the sky is green" for the right amount benjamins.

Go to weei.com Audio Vault for the whole Canseco interview; it's worth a listen if you have 20 minutes or so. Canseco may not go to jail for what he said, but A-Rod could sue his ass off for slander if he can prove what Canseco said isn't true. Or libel if the stuff in the book is false.

Canseco has little credibility, but the stuff in his first book actually proved to be fairly accurate.

I didn't believe Canseco the first time around, but once McGwire shriveled up befor Congress and Palmeiro tested positive, my eyes kinda opened a bit. I won't say I believe what he says about A-Rod, but I won't discount it yet, either.

Would you really be surprised if A-Rod was juiced? And his 'no comment' comment isn't exactly a resounding denial.

Maybe he thinks the comments were stupid. Like when my friends make stupid comments I just shake my head and keep my mouth shut. When you deny it, people keep egging you on.

A-Rod's comments against Conseco's book...when not thought out (and considering he's an athlete, his job isn't to always choose his words wisely...he may not be good at it) can result more trouble than their worth...perhaps he'll comment later...when...he has something good to say

What is so hard about saying 'no, that's a complete fabrication. I have never used any kind of performance enhancing drug'? Unless you have and don't want to implicate yourself. You don't have to measure your words so carefully when you are telling the truth.

It's kinda like when you were in middle school and then someone accused you of being gay. It was worse to say "No I'm not" than to keep your mouth shut. I'm using this example because the level of maturity matches up nice.

Never heard of this steroid thing with A-Rod until just now.I do agree that this is just something Canseco needs to hype his book. Also the timing of this Canseco statement has a huge impact as A-Rod is one home run away from 500. Good publicity for his book.

Canseco is just hyping up his sequeal, nothing like cheating the game and then ratting out everyone else. or worse accussing others that may not be on them. Even with steroids Jose wasnt as good as A-rod maybe thats the motive?

I'm sure he did as did many more; I know a baseball agent that has said Arod and many many others were on roids, he said everyone in the clubhouses knew it and anyone that says different is a liar. According to him it is a unwritten rule that you don't come out with this info for fear of being blacklisted. Canseco was 100% accurate in his first book and I would bet he is 100% accurate in this book.

Funny, Canseco was blasted when his last book came out and now we know he was the only one telling the truth. MLB is a joke, as any insider could tell you ROIDS were rampant. Look at AROD and how quickly he bulked up, sorry folks that does not happen naturally, same with bonds, mcgwire, sosa, on and on

The stuff that Canseco has on A-Rod is one of two things or even both. First, that he is gay or second that he is on the roids (looking at his protruding brow this is clear to see. Either way, he is taking it in the ass.
