A-Rod Might Miss All-Star Game

Alex Rodriguez has played two games with a strained left hamstring, and the results have him wondering if it's a good idea to keep going.

Rodriguez said Wednesday that he is entertaining thoughts of not playing in the All-Star Game, using the three-day break to rest the injury. With four games remaining until then, Rodriguez said he will seek out manager Joe Torre on Thursday to determine if he should be playing at all.

"I think we have to be smart," Rodriguez said. "The one thing you don't want to do is to keep going out there and get it worse, go into the break and do something that's not going to be helpful for the team. We'll get all our brains together and see what's best."

Rodriguez suffered the injury while beating out a fielder's choice in the sixth inning of the Yankees' game against the Twins on Monday. Since then, Rodriguez has played in both of New York's contests against Minnesota, but he is 0-for-8 in those games and does not have a hit in his last 19 at-bats.

I personally think that it would be in the Yankees' best interest for A-Rod to stay out of the All-Star Game. They want to heal A-Rod as quickly as possible because he's their main offense of the Yankees. He's leading the league in RBIs (80) and home runs (28) and he has a .314 batting average. If you give A-Rod a couple of days off, it might not help the Yankees, but it definitely won't hurt them as opposed to letting A-Rod play. He'll make his decision in a couple of days. We'll see what happens.

It is just a meaningless exhibition game. Why risk injury?

Well, it determines who get home field advantage in the World Series. It's not meaningless, but A-Rod definitely needs a break...

From that perspective Romiezzo, then perhaps it is definitely in the best interests of the AL squad (and dreaming Yankee fans about the playoffs) NOT to play Alex Rodriguez. :)

If i were a-rod, I might miss it too...he's more important to the yankees next 80 or so games than the AL's 1 game...

Yankees are already 12 games back as of today so they should tell A-Rod to rest during the All Star break but they do need him in lineup today with Igawa pitching since he is bound to give up a lot of runs and Yankees could have trouble trying to outscore his lousy pitching. A-Rod is due to break out of the slump today.

I say: let him rest! I need a healthy A-Rod on my fantasy team. The All-Star game is useless. It will not help A-Rod get a better contract after teh season. Rest, A-Rod, REST!

It is not like this would be A-Rod's last All Star game. The way Yankees season is going they need him healthy more than a cameo appearance at the All Star game.

Do you guys really care about the All star game? I like watching them hit dingers but I'd rather watch a regular game over this boring scene.

A-Rod is only sitting out the All-Star Game because he doesn't want to help the Red Sox get home field advantage in the World Series.

Two words: Orlando Cabrera. Yup, A-rod should sit out, particularly if it means the only real AL snub gets in.

As if A-Rod is going to do that great in the All-Star game. Right now, he's slumping and hasn't had a hit in the last 8 games, I believe. It should be in his best interest to just take some time off, relax, and just have the Yankees wait until he's fully recovered. Otherwise, people are going to criticize him like they did last year.

"OMG!! He struck out? Dude, that guy sucks!"
