A-Rod Didn't Achieve Milestone, BUT...

The New York Yankees tied a franchise record with eight home runs off Chicago White Sox pitching on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, equaling a feat set by the 1939 Bronx Bombers.

The Bombers belted eight homers en route to a 16-3 win over the White Sox, but Alex Rodriguez, who came into the game with 499 career home runs, went 0-for-5. How ironic is that?

The accomplishment matched a club mark set in the first game of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Athletics on June 28, 1939, when the Yankees blasted to a 23-2 victory in the opener and slugged out a 10-0 win in the nightcap. In the twin bill, Joe DiMaggio, Babe Dahlgren and Joe Gordon each homered three times.

Hideki Matsui led the way with two home runs, giving him a total of 13 long balls in July, which marks the most by any player in the Major Leagues this month.

Also finding the outfield stands were Bobby Abreu, Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera, Johnny Damon, Shelley Duncan and Jorge Posada. Three of those bombs accounted for the early exit of White Sox starter and former Yankee starter, Jose Contreras, who left after 2 2/3 innings after allowing eight hits and seven runs.

Mike Mussina surrendered six hits in six innings and improved to 6-7 on the season. The right-hander struck out six without walking a batter.

Congrats on the Yankees for making history..

Matsui is doing amazing right now. It's funny how most of the Yankees had slow starts, but it looks like they have it coming together now. Johnny Damon is doing better, Matsui, Cano. I can keep going, but I don't wanna feel like I'm a Yankee fan...

It would have been divine intervention if we won it. Would you call the Yankees winning the division this year divine intervention? Maybe not since the Sawx are used to blowing it up in the last 2 months of every season...
