A-Rod A Halo?

by Mlnsports

With the news that A-Rod or, more importantly his agent Mr. Boras, is seeking greener outfields for his big A, the rumor from an agent pal of mine is that A-Rod may be headed to the Big A to play for the Angels. There will be a bidding war, to be sure, but apparently the Angels, who are deep in farm talent and lack a bit more of the Red Sox blend of money guys and young guys, are interested in making the move enough to pony up what Boras is asking. You heard it here first. Brian Ross Sr. Editor MLN Sports MLNSportsZone.com

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to a team like the Angels. I think Boston is out of the picture because there's a lot of publicity there, and he would probably be watched all the time. In LA, I don't think he'd be talked about AS much.

Why not Detroit? Chicago? There are many options for him. It all depends on who wants him the most? And right now, I think it'll be Chicago that'll give him the best offer.

Well, Jay Mariotti wants A-Hole in the worst way but for reasons other than actually playing baseball. And besides, there is no current Cubs owner to even negotiate such a deal.

According to my source, who is tight with Boras, the Dodgers were on the phone with Scott over the weekend. The Angels had the inside track until Blue signed Torre as their skipper. Now they appear to have the inside track. The CUBS??? They're on the auction block. No big deals until their ownership and front office are fully settled upon.

Figgins at DH? Why!?

although...given that an injury will occur (every team has injuries)...the possibility of playing figgins, essentially, anywhere, certainly is appealing...then, assumably, Atkins goes to DH...

Im guessing Gary Matthews...

Its just a quick off of my head line-up... I would assume (if this were going to be the case) that Figgins would do what Bill Hall did a few years back... rotate positions daily to give people the day off while keeping their bats in the line-up...

even if Matthews gets hurt, they can replace him with other people pretty easily... I may have commented before you, but "great minds think alike"

i do think, tyler, that Vlad will see a good chunk of DH time (dependent on injuries of course) because he'll want a semi-rest...

with the injuries that Vlad has had his arm is not as good as it used to be. And yes, I'd take Vladdy's arm out of right if it meant that he'd be more healthy to hit.

NO NO NO! Any team that signs A-Rod MUST play him at shortstop! The talent pool is so much thinner, his defense is more important (and better) there, and you instantly have the best player in the majors at the second most important position on the field (other than pitcher, obviously). It's a lot easier to find a big bat at third than one at short.

how do you know A-rod can still play short... yes he was better there, but he has been at third for a while... he may not be so good at short now...

I mean, he was a gold glover at short and an average defender at third. even 75% of A-Rod's old short defense is going to be more of a boon to the team than the level he'll show at third. What's more, his bat is a whole lot more valuable at short than at third because of the dearth of offensive talent at the position -- that's the important thing. Slugging 3rd and 1st basemen are a dime a dozen, but hard-hitting shortstops, 2nd basemen, and center fielders are much rarer. That's why people like Ripken Jr., Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, Jeter, Grady Sizemore, and Andruw Jones (up until this year at least) are so valuable to their teams.

it's like drafting for position scarcity in fantasy. It overvalues players like Robinson Cano because he can actually hit, as opposed to a lot of middle infielders.

See, but no I didn't. Utley is such a great player that he'd be ultra valuable in fantasy no matter what position he played. If Cano were an outfielder, he'd be near worthless.

Utley is the best fantasy baseball player simply because of the facts that you are talking about... he is that much better than any other second baseman in the league...

The title to this article is incorrect. It should be "A-Rod A-Hole"
