A-Rod "Opts Out" Negotiations..HA

Alex Rodriguez is as good as finished in New York if you ask me. The Yankees landed a bombshell in sayin that they would talk about negotiating an extension to the already massive contract of the disgruntled third baseman. The contract extension was rumored to be close or at $30 million dollars a year making A-Rod the first ever $30 million dollar athlete.

Furthermore, Rodriguez informed the Yankees that he wants to wait until the end of the year to talk about his possibly extension, Goodbye! That statement right there basically spit in the face of the Spankees by practically saying: "Look, at this moment I don't want to talk to the Yankees right now about me prolonging my time here, i'm just going to go out there and continue my MVP season then get a team like the Angels, Cubs, or maybe even the Mariners to give between $30-32 million a year without all the pressure," if you read between the lines, that is what he is saying.

I doubt A-Rod will get the $30-32 million his agent Scott Boras proclaimed he will surely get. But, this relationship between the Yankees and Rodriquez will end slowly and painfully at the end of the Spankees terrible season. That stinks for the Spanks, they can possibly have a guy who will one day break the upcoming Barry Bonds home run record be in a Spanks uniform, but instead they make him crawl in a corner and eventually ask to leave timeout, in this case as a Spankee employee. Good Biddings New York!

This does not necessarily mean that A-Rod is done in NY. Remember, A-Rod's agent is Scott Boras. He wants a bidding war. Only way a bidding war occurs is if A-Rod hits free agency. By signing him now, this would prevent that. You are reading too much into this at this time.

Arod is focusing on his game, according to Boras, and doesn't want to be disturbed by contract negotiations . . . (lame excuse).

Even though Rodriguez is the Yankees best player in a miserable season, I think they could afford to let him go. This may be a chance to start anew. This decade is lost for the Yankees. They have an overpaid, aging roster, and tihs gives them a shot to start over. Rodriguez is going to play well, no matter who he plays for, but it may be better for both parties if he leaves and allows the Yankees to "rebuild", so to speak. Next season, the Angels will fork over more than $25 million a year to have him as their everyday shortstop, they'll win their second title this decade, ride the wave of success for another year or two, and then probably sink back into the pack. Meanwhile, the Yankees can spend that time developing some young talent, ala the likes of Jeter, Williams, and Pettite, and give themselves a renaissance in about five or six years. Yankee fans may not buy it, but it worked before, so I have a feeling it could happen again.
