A-Rod: Yanks Won't Make Playoffs Unless They Beat Boston

7
Vote

According to slugging 3B Alex Rodriguez the Yankees must beat the Red Sox or they will go home empty handed. "The wild card will not come out of the East. Period," Rodriguez told The Post yesterday at the American League All-Stars' press conference. How sure was he of that? "One-hundred percent," he said. At the All-Star break the Red Sox own a 53-33 record, three games better than the Yankees at 50-36. The Yankees are playing at a .581 clip. Meanwhile, the Tigers and the White Sox have a .670 and .648 winning percentage respectively.

Wow, thank you, Captain Obvious! Being six games out of the Wild Card and three games out of the divisional lead does, indeed, make it siginficantly more likely that you'll need to best Boston, especially considering there are two teams as close to you in the WC race as you are to Boston in the AL East one.

Yeah, no kidding. My six-year-old nephew understands this, but A-Rod felt the need to remind the NY Post of it. Brilliant

Or conversely, the New York Post needed to be reminded by Mr. Rodriguez...

Hey, that's possible. Although to be fair, the sports section is the best part of the NY Post. They probably had that all figured out, I bet.

I doubt A-Rod had to remind anyone of anything. This was probably just a case of the media asking stupid questions, as they are known to do.

At least he's talking sense. We'd be all over him if he was saying "well, the Yankees are still well in wildcard contention..." Who knows, it's only six games. I'm sure some teams have overcome six games after the All Star break before...?

The funny thing is that Toronto is completely over looked. The Blue Jays (5GB) are closer to the Yankees (3GB) in the standings, than the Yankees are to Boston. Don't be suprised if the race is between Boston and Toronto. Once AJ Burnett comes back, and if healthy, Toronto will be a force in the AL East.

It's only 6 games at the halfway point. The Indians almost overcame 15 games last year from August on. Anything can happen. Though the Tigers have proved they are for real, it still would not surprise me if they fell apart down the stretch. Injuries, inexperience, slumps...anything can happen.
