A-Rod: Agent? I don't need no stinking agent!

Reports have it that Alex Rodriguez has independently approached the New York Yankees to start negotiating a new deal. Unlike during the regular season, A-Rod is working solo without the help of Scott Boras. The reported deal the two sides are working on is for 10 years, $270 million. Not the $300 million+ that Boras and A-Rod were hoping to get from either New York or another team.

Good for A-Rod. Seriously. He's been portrayed by the media and Red Sox fans like myself as a whiny, bitchy superstar who can't deal with playing in New York. Apparently that's not exactly the case. He said on his website that he and his wife Cynthia have a foundation with organization and would like to stay there. By separating himself from the prototypical-agent, money-hungry Boras, he's saying that money is not his biggest priority and that staying in New York is his first choice. Otherwise, he wouldn't have approached them in the first place. I give him a lot of credit for wanting to stay, especially since Hank Steinbrenner basically called a fraud for opting out. How awesomely awkward is that handshake at the press conference going to be if they re-sign him?

Yes, he still has to perform in the postseason. Yes, he still has to win a championship in New York if everyone is going to call him a true "Yankee". Until then, anything that helps to keep him out of Boston and Mike Lowell in Boston, is fine by me.

Side note: I used to call Scott Boras the Drew Rosenhaus of baseball. Both of them are widely known to sports fans, each want shitloads of money for their clients (a lot of times more than they deserve...coughBarryZitocough), both are seen as sniveling rats. But Rosenhaus takes the sniveling rat part to a whole 'nother level. He wants to be just as famous as his clients. He's been a guest on PTI and Sportscenter, he overshadows his athletes at their own press conferences...is there any other agent that can say that? We haven't heard from him in a while; he may have changed his ways. That's my Drew Rosenhaus rant, I've been holding that in for a while.

I think he liked the idea of the $350 mil or he wouldn't have had his name tied around it. As soon as New York shut it down and Boston said, "Screw you we're resigning Lowell," A-rod sort of backed down and is realizing that nobody in their right minds would pay that much.

I'm not saying he didn't like the idea of $350 mil (who wouldn't?). I'm just saying Boras probably liked the idea and cared more about the money than A-Rod did.

And you're probably right about that, but A-Rod won't be winning me over just because he is settling on a $20 million raise on top of what was already the most ridiculously unreasonable contract in human history instead of the $100 million he originally asked for.

He'll never win me over. Ever. I just thought this was a step in the right direction for him to finally being embraced as a Yankee.

"...Embraced as a Yankee." Well, at least he's comfortable with being the Devil to the rest of us :).

The thing is, I feel for him and the way Yankee fans treat him. He doesn't deserve it 95% of the time (ie regular season). But at the same time, I understand why they treat him the way they do. A-Rod and I have a complex relationship. I love it when people make fun of him, but it sucks that a guy so good gets so much shit.

Did A-Hole actually become his own woman and fire his pimp?

I'm guessing it's more of a kitten-esque meow. I don't see him roaring.

There was a #1 pick a few years ago who negotiated his own deal after Boras couldn't get it done and Boras actually sued the kid, who reneged on his deal. Boras is a piece of shit scumsucking ambulance chaser, I'm so glad I'm not an attorney so I don't have to have him tarnishing my profession. Then again, I have to deal with Rachael Ray....

Yummers! Delish! I love sammies! Can't you just smell that through your TV and the tape delay? I say "EVOO" for short - then I fully explain it's "Extra Virgin Olive Oil" - each and every show!

Rachel Ray - she's only good for a drinking game I invented:

"Get Drunk Under in 30 Minutes - Drink each time Rachel Ray is Annoying and/or Irritatingly Stupid"

Hahaha, that's spot on. She may be annoying, but her recipes are awesome.

She's extremely annoying. And none of "her recipes" are her own. Like everyone else on TV, she's a prop. Buy The Joy of Cooking or Grandma's Cookbook and you'll be cheffing it up better than her in a few weeks.

I am a Rachael Ray fan...it is good to see someone enjoy what they are doing so much. I know she is raking in millions but more power to her. She actually makes cooking look like fun.

Maybe Boras threw that $350 million out there just to see what response he would get and found out nobody is stupid enough to pay that kind of money. Surprised Yankees would up their payroll even more but after the $18 million debacle with Clemens they will save that money next year since doubt Clemens will return in 2008 with Yankees.

For a 20% increase in pay, I'm sure the Rocket will show the Yankees that he is quite capable of churning out another 6 wins.

Wow, Rachel Ray and Scott Boras in the same blog. Go figure. And this, Ray-free, item:

Alex Rodriguez, after learning that Scott Boras, in an exclusive interview with eTrueSports, has admitted to being a "real jerk," immediately fired his longtime agent. "There's only room for one jerk in my world," said A-Rod.

I haven't really noticed too many A-Rod articles. For someone who is probably going to be as big to the Yankees (note: no disparaging nickname used by this Mets fan) as Babe Ruth, he is probably worth the money.

The best part about this is that it costs Boras at least $4M. It could cost him more, if A-Rod flat out fired him, then he'd be down an extra $11M. This make me very happy.
