I keep reading all of his stats. They are definitely Hall of Fame numbers even though his career was cut short, but every time I see them I can help but think that one is missing: Lives Affected(1). I’m sure Kirby would’ve been happy to hear my story. And I’m sure it’s foolish of me to think that I was the only person whose life was impacted by Kirby Puckett but that’s how I feel. He was MY favorite player. Nobody else’s. Now he’s gone from this earth, but he’ll still be tearing down the first base line, hustling to get that ball near the wall and getting ready to jump on home plate in my mind.

I grew up a rabid NY Mets fan-not even American League. Everytime I would watch the sports highlight reel, though, there he was-hustling, making unbelievable catches, and winning games with that 1000 Watt smile! He was my favorite non-Mets player ever, and it saddens me deeply that we lost him so soon. He has touched many lives, including this New Yorker!

When I was a kid in Texas I went to a lot of Texas Ranger baseball games. One of the most hated teams was the Minnesota Twins. I saw them I don't know how many times. I think the only team I saw more was Baltimore, maybe the White Sox. The Twins were such a sore spot in Texas because of one short, stalky guy. Kirby Puckett. He was the hitter we all dreaded when they were in town. He was just that great. And, from what I've read and seen, he was a great man off the field too. We'll miss you Kirby. It was a pleasure to watch you play. Thank you.

As great has he was on the field, he definitely was highly suspect off it.
