756: Let's Go Beyond SportsCenter and the "Breaking News" posts...

33
Vote

by Baltimoresports247

Turn off ESPN...don't read the 2 paragraph posts by SSReporters and all others that will make inane and unresearched posts...let's TRULY take a look at 756...

What is 756? It's a number...perhaps the most hallowed number in all of sports, but, nevertheless, it's just a number. There have been many athletes in pro sports that have acheived "numbers" and are not even in the hall of fame.

Where was Bud Selig? Probably crying in the fetal position in his gigantic mansion in Milwaukee...Bud, if Barry cheated, it's your fault...you knew all about it, so HOW DARE YOU shake your head or look like a deer in headlights when Bonds tied the record...now, he's broken it...and guess what? Most baseball fans enjoy it...Also rewind about five years ago TO THE DAY...the entire steroids scandal TRULY hit the public in the face...

Admit it...as much as you hate Bonds, as much as you think he's a jerk, as convincing as the evidence seems, and as much as you'd hate to admit it, Bonds is the home run king...and you'll be watching ESPN 'til the sun rises...

And hasn't Bonds been FALSELY LABELED as the face of the steroid era? How many others have tested positive for steroids? For God's sake, the guy he hit #755 off of tested positive for steroids in the minor leagues! How ironic is that? Why is Bonds the only one to be connected to this era? Is it because he's black (SERIOUSLY!!)? Why not McGwuire? Why not Palmeiro? Why not Sosa? Why not Clemens? Why not ::fill in pitchers name here::?

I'm not here to promote steroid or HGH use...I'm not here to say that this has all been accomplished fairly...I'm not saying that, in a FAIR society, this is all deserved..

I have news for you all...society isn't fair...life isn't fair, and I have lived that first hand (if you need to know my personal experience, please, email me...my story may help or change your life)..

All I'm saying is that Barry Bonds has accomplished what others have failed to do, even with performance enhancing drugs sitting in their medicine cabinet...and pitchers are the worst offenders, and we may have seen the last 300 game winner EVER...but nobody gave two shits about Glavine, right? Nobody EVER suspected ANYTHING about his integrity...trust me, things are not what they seem...

Hell...Gaylord Perry is in the Hall of Fame, and he has admitted to doctoring baseballs! How is that any different? CHEATING IS CHEATING, it doesn't matter how you slice it...

Forget the steroid accustations for ONE DAY...

As sports fans, let's embrace this moment...it doesn't matter what we think! Hell, the same scrutiny will be laid upon A-Rod in 7-8 years! But hindsight is 20-20, right? Forget all of that...we'll be telling our kids about this one day, let's not forget that...

Are you really going to compare Gaylord Perry and what Bonds is doing? You're really prepared to say that you can compare the two? Give me a break. And as far as telling my kids about it, I will, but I'll also add the tidbit about "The Clear", BALCO, and the quote "I never knowingly took steroids."

Really, so Gaylord Perry doctoring balls can be compared to Bonds breaking the most stories record in all major sports by using steroids? Whatever you say.

Ok Brendan, what about SEAN MERRIMAN?! What about Pete Rose...it doesn't matter...and, YES, I'M COMPARING BONDS TO PERRY, BECAUSE THEY BOTH JEOPARDIZED THE INTEGRITY OF BASEBALL... Perry is in the HOF, so Bonds should be held in the same regard, unless we're all hypocrits

Is Palmeiro? (sarcasm) You f***ink chud...it's not about records, it's about playing the game RIGHT...like all others used too, regardless of what sport it is...stop thinking records and start thinking about how fair the current standard is as to how highly we regard our national athletes, REGARDLESS OF WHAT SPORT THEY PLAY!

Yeah, other than the fact that resorting to cursing dilutes your argument, it matters that he cheated to break this record. I mean, it's really that simple. And the fact that it bothered you that SSReporters got so many votes for that article is pathetic, really. I liked your previous articles and enjoyed them but now you're just making yourself look like an idiot.

How am I doing that? By censoring myself? By expressing my opinion? Thankfully, Brendan, I don't need your opinion to grant myself credentials or credibility in sports media...I was not using "curse words" (oh, mommy, somebody should tell!) to insult anyone, just to express my opinion... Thanks for reading in the past, but I don't need you in the future...have a great day

Actually you're not alone. Not even close. I'm pretty sure a lot of people will say that cheating should be punished all the time. It's kind of silly of you to think no one else shares that opinion. That being said, Barry cheated, so I'm not going to admire his accomplishment.

THAT is a good post, Corey. A hater is a hater, and you and I are haters over the same people: cheaters. I honestly won't harass Bonds that much because he hasn't been "caught" using steroids. There is a lot of evidence in favor of his critics, but in my opinion, I believe in the saying "innocent until proven guilty." So, congratulations Barry Bonds? Did he earn a lot of people's respect the right way? I don't know, and neither does anyone else except Barry.

Exactly, that's all you've got to say. BUT, who would you hate more if you found that both of these imaginable guys taking roids? A guy who JUST broke the career home record taking roids, or a guy who has only 100 home runs and is in his late 30s? You'd probably go with the guy that just broke the record, right? Cuz Hank Aaron, in this hypothetical situation, worked his way to hitting the proper way: without cheating...

I'm not a Barry Bonds fan, but I'm not a big hater either. All of the evidence goes towards the critics of Barry Bonds that he took 'roids, but I don't want to get into detail there.

Because Barry Bonds hit 756, I will congratulate him and be a good sport about it. Come on guys, it's a record. A record that hasn't been broken for 33 years. But, who do we hate? Like Batimoresports247 said in his post, look at Rafael Palmeiro, Sosa, McGwire, and even Canseco. They don't get half the crap that Barry Bonds does and he hasn't been "caught" yet. I don't care what anyone says: it is extremely tough to hit 756 homers, whether you're jacked up on roids or not. Sure, it gives you more power, but when does hand eye cordination coming into play?

Cheaters are cheaters, and they should be punished even worse than they do today, but BONDS HAS NOT BEEN CAUGHT YET. Until then, why can't we all just keep to ourselves. We've had enough in the papers and in ESPN...

I begrudgingly congratulate Barry Bonds on passing Hank Aaron, because despite the circumstantial evidence (I read Book of Shadows and followed the, err, evolution of Bonds' career), he has never teated positive nor been convicted of illegal steroid use. Should Bonds be THE face of the steroid era? No; he should be A face of the era -- along with Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro and everyone who's tested positive up to this point.

Not to mention the owners, GMs and Bud Selig. They knew what was going on (at least some of them did), but no one said a word because baseball attendance records were being set and millions on top of millions of dollars were being made. These people are just as guilty at the guys using and for that reason, this record is not tainted by Bonds.

And I think as time passes, and testing and regulation gets more rigid, the steroid era will become just that -- a period of time in the game's history. Much like the deadball era, the steroid era will lose its harmful connotations as time passes and merely be thought of in the proper context -- as a time in the history of baseball.

Steroids or no, Bonds has the record. And unless and until he tests positive for performance-enhancing drugs, I won't convict him. I won't cheer him necessarily, but I won't condemn him, either.

Cut the crap with the "because he's black" thing. Your post is great except for that. Bonds is the target because of two reasons: he made a run at the homerun record and he's a douchebag when it comes to the media and thats what everyone sees. Everyone was hoping Ken Griffey Jr would break the record and if he did, it would be one of the greatest moments in sports. What race is Griffey again?

As much as we hate to admit it, race still plays a role in some people's eyes in this country...as unfortunate as it seems, that's reality, and some people don't like Bonds (or Aaron for that matter) because they broke a white man's record...not saying that it's right (GOD KNOWS I'm not saying that it's right), I'm saying its a truly saddening and unfortunate reality.. -BaltimoreSports247 commenting live from 1570 AM WNST

As I wrote on another Bonds post, Bonds hasn't been falsely labeled as the face of the steroid era, he's earned it. Yes, there are others that have been linked to steroids, and probably dozens of others are just as guilty. But Bonds is the all-time home run leader, and he's also a first-rate jerk. That makes him an easy target.

When do we start praising Conte as the unappreciated Balco Barry supporter?
