  • Christy Mathewson and Mordecai Brown faced eachother in what would be the final appearnace for both. Both Hall of Famers went the entire game with Mathewson leading the Cincinati Reds to a 10-8 victory.

  • Mark Loretta made his MLB debut for the Milwaukee Brewers. He went 0-1 pinch hitting for Fernando Vina in a 9-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins

  • Josh Beckett made his major league debut. He earned the win by going 6 scoreless innings against the Chicago Cubs. He allowed only 1 hit and 3 walks in addition to striking out 5. He also doubled and scored a run.
