- The rivalry between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers turns ugly when Giants pitcher Juan Marichal hits Dodgers catcher Johnny Roseboro over the head with his bat, touching off a 14-minute brawl. Marichal, who felt that Roseboro's return throws to Sandy Koufax were too close to his head, was suspended eight games.
