2010 World Cup - CONCACAF Qualifying
[edit] Format
North American Qualifying for the 2010 World Cup has not been officially announced, but is likely to follow the 2006 format:
- Preliminary Round will see teams play two-leg aggregate playoffs. Higher ranked teams will receive a bye through one round, and will only face one playoff to the next round.
- Teams that advance through stage one qualifying move onto stage two in pre-determined groups. Ties are organized by said groups.
- Teams will play in 3 groups of 4, with home and away matches. The top two advance.
- The final six teams will play a "Hexagonal". Each plays home and away. The top three qualify for the World Cup, fourth place plays in intercontinental playoff.
[edit] First Round
The following matchups were changed from two-leg to one-leg playoffs, due to stadiums not meeting FIFA specifications: Puerto Rico-Dominican Republic, Grenada-US Virgin Islands, and Montserrat-Suriname
