2007 NCAA Football Predictions

15
Vote

by Timothy Brown

The 2007 NCAA Football season is a little over three weeks away and I believe it is time to call out the preseason polls and show the people of the world my predictions for the end of the 2007 season.

Here is how the major conferences will shape up at seasons end:

PAC 10- USC definitely has the strong hold in this JV conference and will undoubtedly run the tables. However they will be tested against Cal and non conference opponent Nebraska.

Big 10- The clear favorite in the Big 10 are the Michigan Wolverines. With that being said they will still not find a way to win the conference. The Wisconsin Badgers will lose to Michigan but due to Michigan losing two other conference games (Penn State, Ohio State) the Badgers will sneak by the Wolverines to claim the conference title and play in the Rose Bowl.

Big East- The Scarlett Knights were the Cinderella last year but this year there will be no room for a surprise team (many people say USF but they will end up with a mediocre 7-5 season.) This year its all West Virginia. West Virginia has the talent to go undefeated but I believe they will be a one loss team, I'm just not sure who that loss will be to yet.

ACC- This is definitely a year for redemption for the Seminoles. I believe they lose three games in the regular season (Florida, Alabama, and an ACC team to be named later) but still find their way to the conference title game against the Hokies Who will have one loss (LSU sept 8th) and a shot at the national title. FSU wins a close one and Bowden Makes his last trip to the Sugar Bowl.

Big 12- Mizzou or Nebraska in the north... Neither both teams will have mediocre years again and the Kansas State Wildcats make it to the title game with a 5-3 conference record. In the south it depends on if Colt McCoy Can stay healthy... We all saw what happened last year against K-State when he went down early in that game. Ultimately this is a rebuilding year for Oklahoma so Texas takes the south after Texas A&M collapses at the end of the season. Texas Routes K-State in the conference title game.

SEC- Last but not least the toughest conference in the nation the SEC. Florida will struggle early and lose Sept. 15th to the Vols. Unfortunately for Florida they have a tougher schedule against the west (Ole Miss, Auburn, LSU) than Tennessee does (MSU, Alabama, Arkansas) So Tennessee will be able to hold that lead until seasons end. In the west it is a 3 team race (LSU, Auburn, Arkansas with Alabama playing tiebreaker). It will all come down to Houston Nutt, the coach for the Razorbacks. If he allows Mcfadden to run the ball thirty times a game he will get his conference title. If not the LSU Tigers will run the tables and Defeat the Vols for SEC Championship.

Top 25 at seasons end:

1) LSU- they were actually the best team last year and would have easily won the national title if it were in a tournament format. They just have to be aware of the hokies and run the tables in the conference.

2) West Virginia- Their schedule is set up perfectly to run the tables but a loss to Rutgers or Louisville will end their hopes of a national title.

3) Wisconsin- A repeat of last year is the best possible cenario for the badgers despite many predictions no shot at a national title.

4) USC- Easy Schedule puts them in the National title game but it will be Ohio State part two when the Sec Smashes the top ranked team

5) Texas- If colt McCoy Stays Healthy Texas may make another run for a national title. Unfortunately one loss will be too many and this Longhorn team will be upset prone in the Big 12 south.

6) Tennessee- Early season wins over Cal and Florida give Eric Aing and the Vols the Confidence they need to get back on (rocky) Top.

7) Michigan- The wolverines are still one of the best teams in the nation but I believe playing Ohio State Late in the season will be disastrous because the Buckeyes will be a much more mature team by then.

8) Virginia Tech- If the Hokies can pull off the early season upset against LSU they will be a definate national title contender

9) Auburn- The Tigers are another team who will have to beat LSU to get the national title consideration

10) Louisville- Just when you think the Cardinals will get a shot at the national title they find a way to lose... This year will be no different

11) TCU

12) Florida

13) Oklahoma

14) Georgia

15) Cal

16) Penn State

17) Arkansas

18) Ohio State

19) Boise State

20) Texas A&M

21) Nebraska

22) Florida State

23) Boise State

24) Rutgers

25) UCLA

I understand that boston college is a good enough team to tak the acc but unfortunately this year will be a tough one and they will not meet expectations. It was a tough decision to leave the defending acc champs out of the picture but last year was an off year for the ACC and wake forest will not be able to compete with the likes of virginia tech and FSU

Say what you want about Clemson this season, but when they come into Death Valley at night on Labor Day, it is going to be a great game, and I will be there. I can't wait for the season to start.

How is the Pac Ten a JV Conference. For the past few the Pac Ten has had one of the best records in the bowl games and during non-conference play. How is USC's schedule weak? So far, they play at Nebraska, at Notre Dame, at Oregon, at Cal, versus UCLA, and versus Oregon State. All of these teams, except Notre Dame, are ranked in the top 25 in many preseason magazine.

USC almost lost to UW, should've lost to WSU, lost to UCLA and Oregon State. That sounds like a JV conference to you?

The pac 10 is definately inferrior to the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and big east, okay maybe they are better than the ACC...??? look what happened last year when tennessee, the 5th best team in the sec, routed cal, who shared a piece of the Pac 10 title with USC

Okay, yes USC almost lost to Washington and Washington State. Yes, they did lose to UCLA and Oregon State (a ten win team by the way). However, they did kill the SEC West champ Arkansas, the Big XII camp, Nebraska, and Notre Dame, who went to a BCS bowl game. USC easily destroys the no-conference foes while the Pac Ten teams give them the most trouble. Why, maybe because the Pac Ten teams are better than you think.

Thats why I said USC is A Great team and the rest of the conference is not good enough to take them down. However if they played an SEC schedule they would not have as easy of a time running the tables... I dont think that anyone will argue with the fact that the pac ten cannot compete with the SEC.

Last year LSU beat Arkansas by two touchdowns and USC won 50-14. Common opponant and USC dominated the SEC's third best team.

"USC Did not easily destroy notre dame " For goodness sake I was at the freakin game! Notre Dame fans left at the start of the fourth quarter and we chanted "No Win Quinn!" The score was 44-24. The won by 20 points (3 Touchdowns)! Notre Dame was never even in the ball game.

The SEC doesn't grant you any favors over the course of its conference schedule. Meanwhile, in the Pac 10 you get cupcakes like Stanford and Washinton State, who don't provide the type of week in and week out grind that you get in the SEC. Besides LSU played Arkansas much later in the season when the Razorbacks were a different team and after McFadden emerged as a legit Heisman candidate.

Notre Dame, who went to a BCS bowl game That means jack because of the fact that they face powderpuffs. When they face the tough teams, then they blow over.

I don't think you can call the Pac-10 bad or a JV league -- sorry that distinction belongs to the ACC -- but they don't measure up too well with the SEC or Big 10 at the moment. The Pac-10 is on par with the Big 12 in terms of strength, which translates to being close to the 3rd best conference in the nation.

You have Michigan with two losses, but Ohio State beating them yet finishing 11 spots under them. How does that work out?

Are you assuming the UT (who lost most of it's D and all of it's WR's) will beat Georgia? Mark Richt's never lost in Knoxville. Granted, having to play Bama, Auburn, and Florida in addition to S. Carolina and Kentucky isn't an easy task. But it seems like you wrote the Dawgs off pretty quickly.

Ur absolutely right... Georgia is a team that could also win the SEC. I just believe that Tennessee will find a way to defeat the dawgs like they did last year. Eric ainge will be the best quarterback in the conference this year and he will be the difference maker

TCU will lose to Texas, Utah, and BYU. Does anyone honestly look at TCUs team or just assume they will be good because they are the darlings of non-BCS teams?

You're giving Arkansas waaaay too much credit. Without anyone on the team that can throw the ball over 10 yards, they're going to run, run and run some more. Defenses are already going to key on the running game so it won't be anywhere near as successful as last season. On Defense, there are some massive holes on the line, at linebacker and in the secondary to fill - and they won't come close to being adequate. Other teams will score left and right and unfortunately the offense won't be capable enough of keeping them in the game. Hogs go 8-4 at best in the regular season (including the 4 non-conference cupcakes). Losses @ Tennessee and @ LSU are absolutely certain and they'll lose at least two of these four: @ Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, Kentucky. Thank God for the Mississippi schools because they'll get two wins there. I just can't wait until the season is over so we can get rid of Houston Nutt. He is such a disgrace to college athletics.
