2007 Big Ten Preview and Predictions

Loyal bloggers and fans from each Big Ten school have contributed to our 2007 Big Ten College Football Preview. They created a preview for their teams, a win-loss prediction for each game during the season, a prediction for bowl games, and their projected final standings in the Big Ten. Click on each team name to visit its team page and read the season preview.

The 2006 Big Ten college football season was about Ohio State and Michigan making a run at the national title. The Michigan-Ohio State game came down to two undefeated teams fighting for the right to play in the BCS Championship game. Ohio State prevailed and played in the title game. Wisconsin somehow stayed under the radar with all the Ohio State-Michigan hype and finished with a 12-1 record. Penn State was the only other bright spot for the Big Ten last year. The rest of the conference struggled as six of the teams finished with a below .500 record. The Big Ten didn’t impress in the bowl games at the end of the year with a 2-5 record.

Here are the final standings for last year:

1. Ohio State 12-1 8-0
2. Wisconsin 12-1 7-1
3. Michigan 11-2 7-1
4. Penn State 9-4 5-3
5. Purdue 8-6 5-3
6. Minnesota 6-7 3-5
7. Indiana 5-7 3-5
8. Iowa 6-7 2-6
9. Northwestern 4-8 2-6
10. Michigan State 4-8 1-7
11. Illinois 2-10 1-7

The 2007 preseason predictions think Michigan will win the Big Ten this season. They received 7 first place votes. Ohio State lost many starters on the offensive and defensive side this season and it reflected on their predicted third place finish. The voters also believed Illinois would leave the cellar and take seventh place this year.

The 2007 Preseason Big Ten college football standings:

1. Michigan (7)
2. Wisconsin (2)
3. Ohio State (1)
4. Penn State
5. Iowa
6. Purdue
7. Illinois
8. Michigan State
9. Minnesota
10. Indiana
11. Northwestern

Once again, click on the team name to view its preseason preview and to vote for how many games they will win this season. We want to thank all the contributors for their time and willingness to help us with our preview.

This might come as a shock to most of you, but I want to comment on the Illini. I think you nailed it at 6-6. I feel that they will be a significantly stronger team this year then last. Not sure if it will translate to wins, but they are going to be competative. I expect losses that are close but highly contested. I feel that our passing game will be greatly improved. The thing about college is that you dont need great wide outs to get them open. Look at Steve Spurrier when he was at Florida. Juice is one year older and one year more experienced. He should have a significantly better year then last. I have high hopes for them this year. ILLINI baby!!! Once again, extremely biased view point here.

The sleeper team here is Penn State. The onyl tough road game they have this year is against Michigan. Yes, PSU has not beaten UM in a decade. This only means that they are due! :)

The other tough games - Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Wisconsin are all at Beaver Stadium.

Many think I am nuts, but I am sticking with my prediction I made in Dec. Penn State is going undefeated and will be playing for the national championship come Jan.

Sis you mention that they got Illinois on the Road also. Not a cake walk. I am telling people right now, watch out for hte Illini to be a thorn in a lot of teams sides this year. Disclaimer: In no way can these predictions be taken seriously due to the infusion of Orange and Blue juice into the system. Take them for what they are worth, the ramblings of a mad man.
