2007 AFC East Preview and Predictions

by Sportprojections

Loyal bloggers from each AFC East team have contributed to our 2007 AFC East Football Preview. They created a preview for their teams, a win-loss prediction for each game, predicted their team MVP, and projected the final standings in the AFC East for this upcoming season. Click on each team name to visit its page and read its season preview. You’ll also find the latest news from local newspapers, team sites, and bloggers for each team.

The 2006 AFC East final standings and their record in the division:

1) New England Patriots 12-4 4-2
2) New York Jets 10-6 4-2
3) Buffalo Bills 7-9 3-3
4) Miami Dolphins 6-10 1-5

The 2006 AFC East results raise questions for the upcoming season:

The New England Patriots continue to be the team to beat in the AFC East. Will Donte Stallworth and Randy Moss fit in and be good teammates on the offensive side of the ball? Will the Patriots aging linebackers give up too many rushing yards and short passes this season?

The New York Jets will try to improve on their 10-6 season last year. Can Chad Pennington stay healthy for another season? Will the offensive line be good enough for Thomas Jones to gain big yards?

The Buffalo Bills return without their starting running back. Will Marshawn Lynch be the right fit for the Bills and challenge for Rookie of the Year honors? Can J.P. Losman prevent mistakes and give the Bills the opportunity to win every game?

The Miami Dolphins begin the Cam Cameron coaching regime this season. Is Trent Green the answer at quarterback? Will Ted Ginn, Jr. be worth the high draft pick selection? Can the Dolphins offense help their defense to compete for the playoffs?

The bloggers have given us their division prediction, and they forecast no changes from 2006:

1) New England Patriots
2) New York Jets
3) Buffalo Bills
4) Miami Dolphins

Once again, click on the team name to view its preseason preview and to vote for how the team will place this season. We want to thank all the contributors for their time and willingness to help us with our preview.

I honestly don't see how Buffalo is ranked ahead of Miami. I know it's only one game but if Trent Green stays healthy they will win more then 6 games.

Another delusional Fins fan. Let me reeducate you. Trent Green is 37. He moves like he is 90. Miami has two rookies slated to start on the offensive line. They lost their top two receiving totals from last season (Welker, McMichael.) Sammy Morris and Travis Minor, both valuable backups (Morris had 400 yards) are gone. The secondary was horrific, totaling 5 picks last season and did nothing to get better. The defense is aging quickly, and there are no pieces to replace them.

I'm not saying the Dolphins are going to win the devision or even get into the playoffs. I just think they will win more the 6 games.

If I were you, with the roster they have, I would take 6 wins and run away giddily.

You would have put the Dolphins 2nd to the Patriots, correct?

Although I would like to do that I do not think that is what is going to happen. If the Jets play to their potential they will be behind the Patriots.

If the Jets play to their potential they could be ahead of the Pats. The Jets have the potential to have a very exciting offense which is something I haven't seen in my 31 years of being a Jets fan. I still think the Pats are the team to beat, but I don't think the Jets are that far behind. I also think Miami will be the worst team in the division. I like Losman more than Green and without Randy McMicheal I don't see anyone on Miami's offense that scares me.

jets lack offensive weapons necessary to win a division. They'll be a good team, but 2nd place is about the limit for them, especially with all the upgrades the Pats made this offseasons

Cmon, The Jets have a real good Oline, Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, Coles and Cotchery. Baker can be a threat at TE, McCareins is having an amazing camp and Brad Smith is a slash threat. Go back and watch Cotchery do amazing things against the Pats and tell me they don't have the offensive weapons. Moss hasn't had a good year in 3 years, Stallworth is coming off injury. The guy who really scares me is Welker who is impossible to cover and is going to get to the chains like another little white dude who used to pay for the Green and White.

Wow. That is pretty poor. Where are the comedy police to give you a negative for that one.

you wouldn't know comedy if it drafted you in the 1st round, and watched you stink up the NFL like the rest of the Jets

Not really, we haven't been that team since Parcells came to town. That crown is now worn by the Lions.

Consider this about the pats:

Last year's top two receivers were Gaffeny and Caldwell. There's a chance neither of them will make the team.

Moss demands double coverage. Even at his worst in oakland, you still had to double cover him. That's 2 DB's out of the picture. Say they come rolling with their standard Shotgun 4WR set. You've got Moss and Stallworth lined out to either side, and Welker inside of Moss. On the opposite side will probably be Gaffney. If the back is Faulk or Maroney, the RB is a major target (probably an LB to take care of that).

Do the math. If they go 4 Wrs, the defense has to go nickle, and has to give up one of the LBs to coverage. Thats pretty much the same way the Colts work multiple wideout sets, and look where it got them, top of the league in Offense. I'm not saying the Pats receivers and the Colts receivers are the same, but the idea should still work.

As for the jets, they have talent, just not enough. The Jets keep getting better dramatically, but so have the pats. The jets would probably have to go 6-0 in the division to have a chance.
