2006 NFL Best & Worst Games

Yesterday it was college and the young men who are used as a “slave-type” in order for universities across the nation to receive all the financial gains of their hard work. Oh, how silly of me to forget, they’re getting a full scholarship. What does that mean in today world, um……..Does Jack Shit cover it? So now it’s on to the best games on Sunday in the fall with an extra bonus. Since fellow writers like to use a spin off of “My Sports ScuttleButt”, I’ve decided to though in some gag feast games as well free off charge. I have you know I charge a 20% fee for those spin offs though. Since there isn’t any polls used in the NFL these games aren’t ranked (WOW, PLAYOFFS, WHAT A CONCEPT!) Out of these Must See Games (Sorry NBC, I know I just used your spin off for my Scuttlebutt) which one would come out as the champion in “My Sports ScuttleButt Must See Games Playoffs”? Yes, that term/phrase is copyrighted/trademarked by the good folks at LastRowSports.com…Fees will apply!

Best Games

September 7th, 2006: Miami Dolphins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Some people may be questioning the move of the Miami Dolphins playing in the first game of the season. The NFL usually likes to have a team that could make a huge turnaround from the year before go up against the defending Super Bowl champions. Last year, the Oakland Raiders battled the New England Patriots. The game had meaning because Randy Moss and LaMont Jordan were added to the team's offense. Unfortunately, we saw that the Raiders really weren't that much of a threat still. The Dolphins were perhaps the hottest team in the NFL in the second half of last season. Nick Saban turned the Dolphins team around, and they have only gotten better. If Daunte Culpepper develops a solid relationship on the field with Chris Chambers, Culpepper could easily return to his MVP-form of two years ago. The Steelers had a very quiet offseason, besides the BUS rolling into retirement & the whole motorcycle thing

September 10th, 2006: NYG vs. Indianapolis Colts Make sure you catch this game, because it's a match-up that you'll only get to see once every four years in the regular season, barring a trade. It's brother vs. brother, Manning vs. Manning, Eli vs. Peyton.

September 24th, 2006: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers These two teams will also meet in a Week 17 match-up in a game that could be just as important, but this game could set the tone for the division. Carson Palmer barely had the time to face the Steelers in the postseason before tearing his ACL, and would love nothing more than to make a statement that the AFC North is theirs.

October 8th, 2006: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles Better known as the “T.O. Bowl”…Army-Navy no match for this, but support our troops! Welcome Home!

November 5th, 2006: Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots Although the Patriots were not as good last year, this has been one of the top rivalries in the NFL the past few years. The Colts have to travel to New England once again, but Manning already showed last year that he may very well be over the "Belichick" curse. However, one of the keys in beating the Patriots was the use of Edgerrin James. Without James, it may be difficult for the Colts to run the clock down on the Patriots defense.

November 19th, 2006: Miami Dolphins vs. Minnesota Vikings Similar to the “T.O. Bowl”, though not nearly on the same level. However, South Beach does have there fair share of boats, strip clubs, & escorts services. Second though, this might be better than the “T.O. Bowl”? On thing is for sure, the Army-Navy extra curricular activities can’t compete on this sort or level.

November 23rd, 2006: Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs Any time these two teams meet, it's a rivalry. The Chiefs could very well have a 2,000-yard rusher on their team in Larry Johnson, but they still need to find a way to make an impact at the wide receiver position. The Broncos surprised the league last year with the consistency of Jake Plummer, but is that too difficult to match again?

November 27th, 2006: Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks Of all of the teams listed in these top twelve games, the Packers will have the hardest time in contending. However, if Brett Favre does decide to come back, this will be the final Monday Night game of his career. The Seahawks are coming off of an impressive season and were able to lock up Shaun Alexander for a very long time. Who knows too - at this time two seasons ago, the Packers were a playoff time since they were healthy.

December 7th, 2006: Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers The Browns made the biggest splash in free agency in an attempt to bring proven veterans to their team and being able to win games at the line of scrimmage - something that's critical in the AFC North. Plus, the Browns want to make up for an embarrassing 41-0 loss on Christmas Eve to the Steelers last year.

December 17th, 2006: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Carolina Panthers The reason this game was selected though isn't due to the Steelers, it's due to the Panthers. Steve Smith was unbelievable last year, but too often he was the only threat on their offense. This year, they have Keyshawn Johnson added to the mix, which suddenly adds another huge dimension to the Panthers offense. This could be hyped as an early "Super Bowl preview" late in the season if both teams are at the top of their division.

December 18th, 2006: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Indianapolis Colts It could very well be the top offensive game of the year AGAIN - one of those games where you just sit back and watch in awe….ENJOY!

Worst Games

Now comes the simple part…It’s real easy: The entire schedule of the Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers

All the haters out there of this polls, grab a big glass of Haterade, let it simmer, and then let your “Two Cents” flow out. The key is to let it simmer though…It has been proven Haterade best works that way!

Its fine to point out good matchups, but deeming seven teams entire schedules as not worth watching, including the one I root for, is a little dumb. I guess Brett Favre isn't the type of quarterback who can turn in a great game any given Sunday. Or Mike Martz isn't an offensive coordinator that can get the Lions talented rookies rolling.

The truth is that a lot of bad teams have fun games to watch, and a lot of good teams, ones with good defenses for the most part, have boring ones. Not to mention the fact that with the amount of parity that exists in the NFL, any team can become good in one year.

I'll just watch all the football I can and not worry about focusing on matchups pundits and experts deem to be worthwhile.

I couldn't agree more. Some of those teams made serious improvements to areas that were lacking and let's all not be one of those people who picked a Philadelphia-Indianapolis Super Bowl last year and in January claimed we had Pittsburgh and Seattle the entire time.

It's inevitable in the NFL that one or more of the teams he is assuming will be good will be awful, and one or more of the awful teams will make the playoffs. Last year only one team made the NFC playoffs that made it the year before. THe NFL is is up and down like that.

I agree, you can't say that seven teams are just not worth watching at all. Especially considering some of the teams you picked. The Titans just drafted Vince Young and Lindale White. The offensive possibilities of that tandem alone make them worth watching. You can watch the Houston Texans to find out Mario Williams is the bust most people expect him to be. How about the Lions getting Martz? Sure their QB is John Kitna, but if there's anyone that can make an effective offense with Dan Campell, Roy Williams, Mike Williams and Charles Rogers...it's Mike Martz. How about watching the Packers to see if Favre can rebound from that awful season last year? The 49ers have a lot of interesting young players to look out for, particularly Alex Smith. Will he find the handle on the ball and start throwing? The Raiders and Bills I really can't find anything for. But these guys are right - to declare so many teams completely not worth watching is ridiculous.

Wow, I think Favre's last game against Chicago would be a bigger draw than his last Monday night footbal game. But maybe that's just me. And what about Chicago and Seattle. The NFC's top offense vs the top defense?

It'd be nice if American Sports would follow English Soccer. You have 2 or 3 divisions. The best teams are in Division I, they get the most coverage, then II are second rate teams and III are the worst. Anyone can create a new team and join league III. If the team finishes in the top 2, then move up to division II. the worst two from division II fall to division III and same applies for promotion to Division I. this way, the best teams play the best teams. I HATE Expansion. it makes everyone worse, but with this setup, itd still be niec to watch the sport...
