So, when reading a recent issue of SI, I ran upon this article from them that redid the College System if Vince Young and Reggie Bush had stayed in school. Of course this was SI, so they did it bad. I decided to do it myself by redoing the season and covering the biggest stories of the year.
Texas Longhorns
This year, the 'horns suffered a mediocre season without VY. They made it to some crappy Bowl game, and were a let down to several fans.
If VY stayed in School, UT would have ran the Table, including a demanding victory over OSU that ruins their season. A strong run game plus young woluld have been unstopppable. Texas goes undefeated, and spend the whole year as the unanimous number one team in the country, VY wins the Heisman and is compared so some of the Greatest College QB's ever, yet still gets drafted by a Tennesse Team that sets the record for going 0-16 under Kerry Collins because they took D'Brickashaw Ferguson and not a QB, and the Jets go 8-8 instead of 10-6. UT also gets to play in the national Championship.
USC Trojans
Here's where I dissagree with SI. I don't think that Bush would have helped them win against Oregon St. They needed more help then that, but go 11-1 with a close loss to Oregon state and miss out on a Chance to go to another National Championship game.
Boise St.
Not a lot changes for this team, except for they likely get snubbed completely from the BCS bowls because the BCS commitee takes Michigan and OSU. Fans such as myself cry and plead for a Playoff systen because an undefeated team gets nothing besides a New Year's eve bowl game.
Ohio St.
This team loses to Texas early in the season, and goes to the Rose Bowl instead of playing in the National Championship game. They do beat Michigan, which creates a problem that I will get to. Ginn, Smith, Pittman, and the rest of the OSU offense is no longer looked upon as such a strong group, and gets less coverage and Air time on ESPN.
Michigan
Entering their game with OSU, they are undefeated and looking at playing Texas in Glendale, but lose by three again and go to a different bowl game. Lloyd Carr is fired, and this marks the end of his coaching days.
Florida
Florida is enthusiastic about Michigan's loss to OSU because it allows them to play for the National Championship game. Florida still goes undefeated.
National Championship
In another amazing performance, VY leads the Longhorns to Victory and signs a contract with the Titans who have the first pick shortly after the Combine.
Bowl Games
The BCS Bowls will be:
- Natl. Championship: Texas OVER Florida
- Rose Bowl:USC OVER OSU
- Sugar: Oklahoma OVER Michigan
- Orange: LSU OVER ND
- Fiesta: Louisville OVER Wake Forrest
NFL Implications
On top of what I have all ready said will happen to the NFL, here are some other things:
- Laurence Maroney shoots up the 2006 NFL Draft board and is taken second overall, he is named rookie of the year
- The Pats trade up for Bobby Carpenter, and then draft Maurice Jones-Drew in the Second round.
- The Jaguars fall flat without MJD, and finnish with a below .500 record
