The World Championship moved on to Montreal and saw another dominating display from Fernando Alonso.

Again though, it was Michael Schumacher that saved the weekend. Having qualified well down the grid in fifth, he worked his way up to third early on in the race.

Alonso was just ahead of Kimi Raikkonen all race, but towards the end, the marbles at the hairpin caused a problem. This allowed Schumacher to pass Raikkonen two laps from the end.

That capped a bad day for McLaren - earlier on, Juan Pablo Montoya hit the Wall of Champions to end his race.

It was also a bad race for the Honda of Jenson Button, who after a promising Qualifying, dropped down the order. He was overtaken by fellow Brit David Coulthard on the last lap to fall out of a points' position.

David Coulthard was the beneficiary of a safety-car which came out after Jacques Villeneuve crashed in his home race. He looked set for points before being caught out on the marbles.

That brought pressure to Alonso at the end, but he hung on to his advantage to extend his championship lead. It was his first win in a race in North America.
