The 1998 Detroit Tigers finished with a record of 65-97. They scored 722 runs and belted 165 home runs to go along with a .264 batting average. The offense was powered by Tony Clark, who led the team with 34 home runs, 103 RBI, and 175 hits. Brian Hunter had a great year on the basepaths with 42 stolen bases.

The team allowed 863 runs and had a team ERA of 4.93. Brian Moehler was the winningest pitcher, with 14 games won. Justin Thompson racked up 149 strkeouts to lead the team. Todd Jones was the team's best fireman, with 28 saves.
