1993-94 Anaheim Mighty Ducks
[edit] The Offseason
The Ducks were founded in 1993 by the Walt Disney Company. The name of the team was taken from the 1992 Disney film The Mighty Ducks, which starred Emilio Estevez (The Breakfast Club, Bobby) as the coach of an underdog peewee hockey team. The Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim was built for the Ducks, a new arena built within walking distance from Anaheim Stadium (now Angel Stadium of Anaheim). Their first draft pick, fourth overall, was Vancouver native Paul Kariya (future Ducks Rob Niedermayer and Chris Pronger were also chosen in the top five).
[edit] Preseason Predictions
Given that the Ducks were a brand-new expansion franchise, not much was expected of them in their inaugural season.
