The 1989 New York Yankees finished with a record of 74-87. They scored 698 runs and belted 130 home runs to go along with a .269 batting average. The offense was powered by Don Mattingly, who led the team with 23 home runs and 113 RBI. Steve Sax led the team with 205 hits for a .315 average. Steve Sax had a great year on the basepaths with 43 stolen bases.

The team allowed 792 runs and had a team ERA of 4.54. Andy Hawkins led the pitching staff with 15 wins and 98 strikeouts. Dave Righetti was the team's best fireman, with 25 saves.
