[edit] Controversy
After Jose Canseco's memoir "Juiced" hit the shelves, Mike Greenwell, the runner-up for the award, questioned the legitimacy of the honor. Greenwell stated "Where's my MVP? [Canseco's] an admitted steroid user. I was clean. If they're going to start putting asterisks by things, let's put one by the MVP."
At least one member of the Baseball Writers Association of America, the organization that elects the MVP, told ESPN that he did not expect the organization to strip admitted steroid users of their awards.
