The 1987 San Diego Padres finished with a record of 65-97. They scored 668 runs and belted 113 home runs to go along with a .260 batting average. The offense was powered by John Kruk, who led the team with 20 home runs and 91 RBI. Tony Gwynn led the team with 218 hits for a .370 average. Tony Gwynn had a great year on the basepaths with 56 stolen bases.

The team allowed 763 runs and had a team ERA of 4.28. Ed Whitson led the pitching staff with 10 wins and 135 strikeouts. Lance McCullers was the team's best fireman, with 16 saves.
