The 1979 St. Louis Cardinals finished with a record of 86-76. They scored 731 runs and belted 100 home runs to go along with a .278 batting average. Ted Simmons provided the power for the team with 26 homers. Keith Hernandez was the best run producer with 105 RBI. Garry Templeton led the team with 211 hits for a .314 average. Tony Scott had a great year on the basepaths with 37 stolen bases.

The team allowed 693 runs and had a team ERA of 3.74. Silvio Martinez and Pete Vuckovich were tied for the team lead in wins with 15. Pete Vuckovich struck out 145 batters to lead the team. Mark Littell was the team's best fireman, with 13 saves.
