The 1978 Philadelphia Phillies finished with a record of 90-72. They scored 708 runs and belted 133 home runs to go along with a .258 batting average. The offense was powered by Greg Luzinski, who led the team with 35 home runs and 101 RBI. Larry Bowa led the team with 192 hits for a .294 average. Garry Maddox had a great year on the basepaths with 33 stolen bases.

The team allowed 586 runs and had a team ERA of 3.33. Steve Carlton led the pitching staff with 16 wins and 161 strikeouts. Ron Reed led the team with 17 saves.
