The 1971 Cincinnati Reds finished with a record of 79-83. They scored 586 runs and belted 138 home runs to go along with a .241 batting average. The offense was powered by Lee May, who led the team with 39 home runs and 98 RBI. Pete Rose led the team with 192 hits for a .304 average.

The team allowed 581 runs and had a team ERA of 3.35. Don Gullett was the winningest pitcher, with 16 games won. Gary Nolan struck out 146 batters to lead the team. Clay Carroll was the team's best fireman, with 15 saves.
