The 1956 Detroit Tigers finished with a record of 82-72. They scored 789 runs and belted 150 home runs to go along with a .279 batting average. Charlie Maxwell led the team in home runs with 28. Al Kaline knocked in 128 runs. Harvey Kuenn led the team with 196 hits for a .332 average.

The team allowed 699 runs and had a team ERA of 4.06. Leading the team in wins was Frank Lary, with 21. Paul Foytack struck out 184 batters to lead the team.
