The championship went to Belgium for Round Three. It would see Alfa Romeo go head to head with Ferrari. The rest of the field was comprised of uncompetitive Talbot-Lagos.

In qualifying, Juan Manuel Fangio took pole, with his Alfa Romeo team-mate, Giuseppe Farina in second place. Then came the three Ferrari's, led by Luigi Villoresi and Alberto Ascari, with the final Alfa Romeo coming in sixth.

Giuseppe Farina took the lead of the grid. In the pit stops, Fangio had a wheel jam on the hub. This dropped him to the back of the field. Fangio later retired, despite challenging with Farina at one point for the lead.

Farina also had a minor problem, but nothing could stop him beating the Ferrari's of Alberto Ascari and Luigi Villoresi. They were two laps clear of the rest of the field - all Talbot-Lagos.

Alfa Romeo were still the dominant force, but it seemed Ferrari were catching up.

Farina took the lead in the Championship, with Ascari behind him. Fangio was narrowly behind them. The championship looked to be in good shape heading for France.

Bold type denotes bonus point for setting the fastest lap.
