The 1949 Chicago Cubs finished with a record of 61-93. They scored 593 runs and belted 97 home runs to go along with a .256 batting average. The offense was powered by Hank Sauer, who led the team with 27 home runs and 83 RBI. Andy Pafko led the team with 146 hits for a .281 average.

The team allowed 770 runs and had a team ERA of 4.50. Johnny Schmitz was the winningest pitcher, with 11 games won. Dutch Leonard struck out 83 batters to lead the team.
