The 1897 Washington Senators finished with a record of 60-70. They scored 781 runs and belted 36 home runs to go along with a .297 batting average. Tom Brown, Kip Selbach, and Tommy Tucker were tied for the team lead in home runs with 5. The offense was powered by Gene DeMontreville, who led the team with 93 RBI and 193 hits. Kip Selbach had a great year on the basepaths with 46 stolen bases.

The team allowed 793 runs and had a team ERA of 4.01. Win Mercer led the team with 21 wins. Doc McJames struck out 156 batters to lead the team.
