147
In the game of snooker, the maximum possible break, disregarding any infringements of the rules which may lead to a Free Ball being called, a 147 break is the maximium possible break. This is achieved by hitting fifteen consecutive red+black sequences, followed by all the colours, yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black, once each.
The maximum possible break is 155. This would require the player's opponent leaving a Free Ball from the first ball in play, then the player scoring one point from a free ball, seven points from the black, and a further 147 in the pre-stated fashion.
The first ever competitive 147 break was made by John Spencer against Cliff Thorburn on January 13, 1979. The first 147 break in the Embassy World Championship was made in 1983 by Cliff Thorburn, against Terry Griffiths.
In 1998, Tony Drago hit a 149 break which was recorded by Guinness World Records as the highest break in professional play.
During 2005, Jamie Cope made snooker's first registered 155 break in a practice match.[1]
