Usage Rate

Usage Rate, as defined by John Hollinger, is a basketball metric that estimates the number of possessions a player consumes per 40 minutes played. The formula is:

Usage = 40 * (League Pace Factor / Team Pace Factor) * ((FGA + 0.44*FTA + 0.33*AST + TO) / Min)

The term "Usage Rate" can also refer to a Dean Oliver stat also known as %Poss, or the percentage of his team's possessions a player uses while on the court.
